[edit] Announcement
I have set up a new article on Wikipedia called Simulism, as I think that the Simulated Reality article is badly in need of a rewrite. Currently the latter seems to be mainly a largely unsubstantiated exploration of personal ideas and theories, more suited to this Wiki, rather than a documentation of what has been written on the topic, either in fact or fiction. Anyone who wishes to lend a hand is welcome, either to join the debate or do some of the editing.

Great idea, I hope this will be picked up by the wikipedia community properly, and won't end in a similar mess as the Simulated Reality page. --Ivo 20:18, 2 March 2007 (CET)
[edit] "Contact" of sorts
Suppose I found a PCM audio recording of my full name encoded in the Book of Psalms (in its entirety) of the 1611 King James Version of the Bible and in such manner which is absolutely non-straightforward (hardly repeatable): By learning C++ first for the sole purpose and then constructing a simple custom "decoder" software; connecting the rise and fall of every verse (letter counts) by sine so crude as to only mimick waveforms (which turned out to be rather noisy in playback), then using commercial software, converted the sample type, stretched it a bit, some FFT filtering and afterwards employed noise reduction SEVERAL DOZENS of passes in series making adjustments as necessary as if by trial and error, and eventually finding or rather-- hearing, that it is really there?
Do the seemingly ignorantly-done and irrepeatable process deem the outcome as non-proof?
What are the implications and how would anyone else accept or react to such proof, aside from being accused as a con or a looney and ostracized by most of one's own friends?
Although the most relevant question being asked is, how did I know it was there in the first place? To which my answer would be-- I didn't know how. Was it some form of hidden, dormant script (The knowing it's there and the not so straightforward decoding part) invoked within my own brain?
What if the real story behind the Gospels is the discovery of such a virtual world by Jesus and the reason he's aware he's immortal?

[edit] And yet another...
The story doesn't end there, about half a year later while I was toying with the main music (opening) theme of Star Wars using CoolEdit I heard my full name yet again, this time being sung with lyrics in Filipino (Tagalog) from 0:35.872 to 1:36.743 of the original(1977) soundtrack when the sample rate is scaled down from 44100Hz to 28000Hz and 30000Hz range, turning the various instrument sounds into unified, pseudo-vocals.
Well to avoid confusion, the first story indeed happened (about 3 years ago) and not a mere hyphothesis, and I have had enough unfortunate experiences with many people so as not to tell anyone anymore with regards to this whole thing but this time only, and since I really think you guys here are wise to ponder upon this objectively, maybe acquire some clues, ideas or anything positive, despite its sounding to be leaning more on the delusional subjective, not to mention vanity.
I am willing to provide the files (sources and audio) to the site owner if needed.

Sorry, to make myself clear that should've been between 0:25.00 to 1:05.00 of the Star Wars main theme at 44100Hz as opposed to 0:35.00 to 1:36.00 at 30000Hz.

- I have heard tales of similar, but these tales normally take the following form: If you faint, or even if you press your fingers over your eyes, your vision will begin to alter, so that you see stars (pixels?) coming in from the edge of your vision, to completely taking over your field of view. What you then experience is a pattern which is centralised, like a kaleidoscope with whirls and ever-changing colours and patterns, which completely dominates. In the case of fainting this experience is short-lived, but if you press your fingers onto your eyeballs, this can be experienced for several seconds. (Don't do this too much as it can hurt, and there are after-effects which can last for a few minutes.)
- I have heard tell from those who know that the patterns are very simular to drug-induced patterns (eg those which occur after imbibing lysergic acid or similar). Such patterns appear to be integrated into the objects being viewed, i.e. the pattern is part of the surface feature of the object itself. What is the origin of these is hard to say, but in accounts that I have read, such patterns seem to be independent of, but imposed on the objects being viewed; i.e. if you shift your focus to a new object, the pattern stays the same, but it becomes integrated with the new object in a slightly different manner; i.e the pattern is a surface feature of the new object.
- All of this is very strange, and not at all what might be expected, unless a person's field of view is generated by some underlying pattern-matrix, on which objects and structures could be superimposed. This of course could very well be what the brain is doing. On the other hand....

yes yes i believe all of us as children have pressed on our eyes hard enough to notice such things and i believe that it could happen without the pressure but with a lack of oxygen but what disturbed me is the fact that it happened almost a full thirty minutes after i passed out giving me plenty of time to recover. i thank you for trying to help .i thought that you would laugh me out of the discussion and id have to go else where. what else is disturbing is im haveing less dejavu than usual (was about twice a day) and i was almost involved in a car wreck i know that i sound paranoid (witch i most likely am)but two near death experiences in just a few days in a strange "vision" between them seems like more than just a fluke
and it still doesn't explain the "ping"
